prostrate

a friend of mine called me just last night. his dad was hospitalized and the entire family went into a frantic panic. the complaint was can't pee and poo. after reviewing by the doc, a surgery was ordered. my friend's mummy (can't understand a word of English) heard the HO (houseman) mention something about 'kai dao' and she near burst into tears! making things worst, my friend had ABSOLUTE ZERO trust in that hospital. reason being he was wrongfully diagnosed there once, leading to a delay in treatment; now he suffer from chronic pain.

when we were discussing his dad's case, i promptly recalled last sem's lectures and tutorial on prostrate. so i gladly explained everything to him. it really did alley his anxiety! nursing intervention do work! =) he in turn explain the case (pathophysiology) to his mummy. the next day when they visit the doctor to discuss about the surgery, his mummy was more calm and composed. they were able to engage with the doctor on condition and understand the doctor better. knowledge indeed empowers!

so even if 1 day when i am retired from this wonderful career i will still be useful to the human kind! =) this is one of the few reasons that inspired me to be a 'bai yi tian shi' (angel in white).
